Hoblingwell
Hoblingwell Wood Recreation Ground, located in St Paul’s Cray is a vital Local Green Space in the northeastern part of the borough. The site boasts a diverse natural environment, partly designated as a Site of Importance for Nature Conservation, and features a variety of landscapes, including woodland, a pond, a watercourse, wetland areas, and scrubland. Additionally, there is a wildflower meadow and terraced sports fields, providing local residents with a range of recreational opportunities, from walking trails to both casual and organised community sports. As an essential Urban Open Space in a predominantly residential area, it plays a key role in supporting both environmental conservation and active lifestyles.
The Friends of Hoblingwell is a voluntary, not-for-profit association dedicated to supporting the conservation, positive use, maintenance, and development of the green spaces in and around Hoblingwell Wood. The Friends are led by a community-based management committee and collaborates with the London Borough of Bromley, its contractors, and other key stakeholders to enhance local provisions. Ideas and initiatives are discussed at regular public meetings and supported through ongoing consultation, including surveys and direct conversations, with updates periodically shared via bulletins, posters, and other media channels. Our most recent survey generated over 150 detailed responses. We also receive feedback, suggestions, and letters of support from members, supporters, local residents and community representatives.
We organise community events, fundraising efforts, and regular volunteer workdays, which include activities such as conservation, wildlife surveys, planting, pruning, watering, weeding, painting and maintenance in and around Hoblingwell. These activities not only improve the local environment but also foster social connections and build community engagement.
Additionally, we engage in outreach efforts by attending local forums and events, collaborating with other groups to enhance the broader community and foster goodwill and reciprocal relationships. This includes Community Impact Days—multi-agency events designed to make a tangible, lasting, and positive difference in the local area—and activities that offer variety, new experiences, and skill-building opportunities for our volunteers.
